Swiss multi-instrumentalist, composer and producer Max Whitcher is an award-winning artist whose work moves seamlessly between classical, jazz, pop, contemporary and theatre music.
Raised in a family of musicians and dancers, he grew up between Switzerland, Italy and the French Riviera, learning piano and double bass from an early age. Already as a teenager, he gained international recognition – from winning the Concours International de Piano de Paris to performing a concerto as soloist with orchestra at 14.
With piano, cello and double bass, he has toured internationally, collaborated with renowned orchestras such as Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich and composed music for theatre productions at venues like Stadttheater Bern and Rote Fabrik Zurich. He was the musical director for the opening of the renowned dance festival Zürich Tanzt and his works have been commissioned by ensembles such as the Ariel Quartet and the Nizhny Novgorod Soloists, and his arrangements have been performed by Kollegium Winterthur, to name a few. As a workshop leader, he collaborated with the Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich on the music:eyes project, connecting young musicians with orchestral soundscapes in innovative ways.
In addition to his artistic projects, Max is dedicated to teaching. He shares his experience as a mentor and educator, inspiring students to explore new musical worlds beyond stylistic boundaries and to find their own voice in music. Together with his wife and artistic partner Marena Whitcher, he continues to compose, arrange and produce music that opens doors into unique sonic universes.
